EESA Queensland is an initiative in its technical program to provide training for engineers new to the electric energy industry. The program includes introductory presentations covering essential topics in design, technology and construction. This is an opportunity for students and engineers new to the industry to build their knowledge of high voltage power systems. Experienced engineers seeking a refresher and CPD are also welcome to attend.

Topic: Introduction to Transformer Oils
Philippe Reboul from Nynas will be presenting the basics of transformer oil as well as introducing some more advanced concepts.
Often called the blood of the transformer, the oil is not only one of the very key component of a transformer from an insulation and cooling perspective but is also the only part of the transformer that can be easily sampled and analysed to better assess the health of the transformer and what might be happening inside.

This presentation will cover:
• The essential functions of transformer oil
• Types of transformer oil
• Key physical and chemical properties
• Uninhibited, inhibited, passivated oil
• Oxidation stability
• Standards and specifications
• Maintenance and monitoring
